Richmond Roosters News Release
Evansville, Indiana - The Roosters dropped the second game of their series against the Chillicothe Paints on Monday 10-3. A couple of four run innings for Chillicothe and some shaky defense by Richmond proved to be too much for the Roosters to overcome.
The first runs of the game didn't come until the top of the fourth. The Paints pushed four across the plate in the inning on six hits including back-to-back homer by Beau Blacken and Joshua Ury. The Roosters cut that lead in half in the bottom of the inning. Mike Reese doubled to lead off the inning and Josh Hollingsworth knocked him in with a one out home run over the left field wall cutting the lead to 4-2.
The score remained that way until the eighth inning when the Paints scored four more runs, taking advantage of defensive miscues by the Roosters. Richmond committed three errors in the inning on top of four hits by Chillicothe. Noah Peery and Jeff Funaro each had a RBI hit to help stretch the lead back out to six at 8-2. Mike Reese drew the Roosters a run closer in the bottom of the eighth with his third home run of the year to make it an 8-3 score. The Paints came right back with two runs of their own in the top of the ninth after Noah Peery and Mike Spry each had RBI hits. That would give Chillicothe a 10-3 lead that would hold through the bottom of the ninth and send Richmond to a loss. Justin Munoz (1-1) won it for Chillicothe while Rick Weber (0-2) took the loss.
The Roosters (17-21) will wrap up their series against the Paints (19-19) on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at McBride Stadium. Robby Read (1-1, 4.10 ERA) will take the mound for Richmond and try to win the rubber match of the series against John Martinez (8-0, 1.54 ERA). The Roosters will begin a road series with Windy City on Wednesday.
