Otters Fall Short in 3-2 Loss against Frontier League Champs

(JOLIET, Illinois) endash The Evansville Otters narrowly lost 3-2 road at the Joliet Slammers on Friday night.

Both teams scored a run in the second inning and Evansville regained the advantage in the second inning on an RBI single from outfielder Deangelo Mack. Traded to the Otters before the game, Mack made an immediate impact with a 2-1 Evansville lead.

Joliet would come back in the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run from Hector Pellot to tie the game, and an RBI single from Abel Nieves to take the lead in the seventh.

Evansville would stage one late ninth inning rally but closer Daniel Carela induced a groundout from Nick Schwaner to end the game.

The Slammers improve to 3-5 with the victory as the Evansville Otters now stand at 3-4.

Reliever Chase Doremus (1-0) receives the win after pitching two scoreless innings. Evansville starter Matt Crim (0-1) finishes with the loss, giving up three runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched.

Infielder Frank Martinez and catcher Bubba Garcia both finished with two hits in the loss.

Evansville will look to get back to their winning ways tomorrow with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch at Silver Cross Field. It will be the middle game of the weekend series against the Joliet Slammers.
