Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL) - After suffering a four-game losing streak earlier in the week, the Slammers notched their second consecutive win, 3-2, at Silver Cross Field on Friday night to open their series with the Evansville Otters.

The Otters struck first in the second inning. John Karcich walked to lead off the inning, advanced on a groundout, and was brought around on a grounder to short.

Joliet tied it up in the home half of the inning with a team effort: Hector Pellot singled and advanced on a Zach Mandelblatt sacrifice bunt, a Kyle Maunus single, and came home from third when Brad Netzel popped a sacrifice fly into the outfield to tie the game.

Evansville jumped back out in front in the third. With Karcich again in scoring position, DeAngelo Mack singled into the gap, making it 2-1.

It would stay that way until the sixth, when Pellot sent a solo home run screaming over the left field wall to tie it up yet again. The Slammers pulled away in the seventh when Abel Nieves singled to bring in Sean Estand from second base.

In his second start of the year for Joliet, Jeremy Tietze tossed five innings on just two runs. Chase Doremus notched the win, Geoff Brown and Brian Smith took it into the ninth, where Daniel Carla picked up the save. Starter Matt Crim suffered the loss for the Otters.

With the two-game streak, Joliet looks to take the series against Evansville on Saturday night in a 6:05 start. Fans will be treated to Myron Noodleman's antics at the yard in his highly anticipated return to Silver Cross Field. Fans can catch the action live on AM 1340 WJOL, and streaming live online at www.wjol.com, with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
