Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters (50-45) host the River City Rascals (50-45) in the regular season finale tonight.

First pitch is set for 6:35 pm CDT at Historic Bosse Field in Evansville, Indiana.

It is Working Distributors Night and Thirsty Thursday! Fans can enjoy 16 ounce beers for only $2.

Evansville will be looking to accomplish many historic events this evening.

With a win tonight, the Otters will have swept River City nine games to none this season. Evansville has not swept all meetings from the same team in a single year since 2003, when coincidentally the Otters swept Gateway, Kenosha and Mid Missouri (all 4-0).

Pitcher Matt Zielinski (9-7, 3.59 ERA) will tie an Otters single season record with his 20th start tonight. With a win, he will have 10 victories, the most in Otters single season history.

Zielinski also has a Frontier League best 106 strikeouts. If he becomes the Frontier League strikeout title holder, it will be only the second time an Otter has won that distinction (Jeff Leystra - 109 strikeouts in 1996).

Designated hitter James Mallard has won two of the last three games for Evansville by way of walk-off hits. He only trails Otters shortstop Ryan Kresky who has four walk-off at bats this season. Mallard is also on a four game hitting streak.

Outfielder J.R. Higley is also on a four-game hitting streak and he also has two home runs this week as well.

Fellow outfielder Chris Elder has hit safely in seven of the last eight games. He also has scored at least one run in each of the last four contests.

A triple tonight for Otters outfielder John Schultz would give him eight, an Otters single season record.

Infielder Frank Martinez needs three hits tonight to record 100 this season.

With a save tonight, closer Eric Massingham would have 20 this season. It would be his third 20-save season with the Otters. In the 18 year history of the Otters, there has only been one other closer to post 20 saves (Mike Bille with 20 in 2006).

Fans can tune in to the Otters pregame show on WUEV 91.5 FM beginning at 6:15 pm CDT.
