Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA-The Greys took an early lead in the second inning off starter Shawn Blackwell and never looked back, as they defeated the Washington Wild Things 6-2 in the 2013 season finale at CONSOL Energy Park on Thursday.
In the top of the second, an RBI single gave the visitors an early 1-0 advantage. A sacrifice-fly by Ryan Kiesel put the Greys ahead 2-0.
Two innings later, the Greys sent nine men to the plate and, as a result, cushioned their lead. Mark Micowski blasted his second homer in as many nights to put the Greys in front 3-0. An infield single by Ryan Kiesel and a hit-by-pitch with bases loaded gave the league's traveling team a 5-0 lead.
The Greys added an insurance run in the top of the sixth via an RBI double by Michael Allen to stretch their advantage by six.
Down but not out, the Things answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 8th as two errors by the Greys defense, an errant throw by Blake Bergeron and a passed ball, cut the deficit 6-2.
Washington plated one more run in the bottom of the ninth when Stewart Ijames led off the final inning with an RBI double and scored off of a Jovan Rosa RBI groundout.
At the conclusion of the game, the Greys will head to Avon, OH and the Washington Wild Things will return their uniforms and head to their out-of-season homes.
The Frontier Leagues 2014 season will get underway in May 2014 and the team will be entering their 13th season.
