Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

AVON, OH - The Traverse City Beach Bums needed to head into the postseason on a high note. Ben Rawding gave them that and more with a two-hit complete game shutout over the Lake Erie Crushers Thursday night for a 2-0 win. The Beach Bums finished 55-41 on the 2013 regular season in second place.

Rawding (2-0) brought a perfect game into the 5th inning, as Andrew Davis spoiled the outing with a one-out single up the middle. Besides a walk to David Roney, the only other Crusher to earn a spot on the base paths was Juan Sanchez in the ninth. Rawding also set a new season high with nine strikeouts.

Jason Wilson countered for the Crushers with seven innings of shutout baseball. The Beach Bums quickly got to relief pitching when Sean Gusrang led off the 8th inning with a solo homerun for the first run of the ball game. Traverse City doubled the lead in the 9th. Jose Vargas led off the frame with a single, and moved to third base on two wild pitches. Andrew Heck drove home Vargas for a 2-0 Beach Bums lead.

Matt Smith (5-6) suffered the loss giving up the first run of the ballgame.
