Cicio Fans 15 as Aviators Win Season Finale

NORMAL, Ill. - Nick Cicio stole the show Thursday night at Normal as the left-handed reliever-turned-starter struck out 15 and collected his first career complete game in Rockford's 4-1 win in the 2013 season finale.

Normal got on the board first, thanks to a solo shot from Oscar Garcia, but it could've been worse. Just before the homer, Cicio struck out Tyler Shover and Rockford catcher Tyler Smith threw out Ryan Lashley trying to steal second to complete the strike 'em out, throw 'em out double play and clear the bases.

The Aviators tied it in the top of the fourth. The Normal shortstop threw wide to first trying to complete a double play. The wide throw allwed Jeff Kremer to score and knot the game at one.

Rockford got the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth. Brian Bistagne hit a leadoff single and scored three batters later on Gabe DeMarco's RBI fielder's choice. It was 2-1 Aviators after five.

DeMarco hit a one-out double in the eighth and scored on a two-out, RBI single from Jeff Kremer to give the Aviators a 3-1 lead. Edgar Corcino made it 4-1 with a two-out, RBI single that scored Kremer to cap off the scoring.

Nick Cicio dominated more as the game went on. He struck out the last batter in the sixth and started a stretch of seven straight strikeouts during a stretch in which he retired 13 in a row.

With the win, Rockford finishes the season 36-60, while Normal finishes tied with a franshise-best record of 46-50.
