Evansville Otters News Release

Sauget, IL - The Otters let a 3-0 lead slip away Saturday night, ultimately dropping a 4-3 contest to the Gateway Grizzlies at GCS Ballpark.

The Otters built the lead thanks to an Eric Blackwell RBI single in the first inning, Josh Howard's first home run of the year in the third, and a bases loaded walk to Frank Meade in the fifth inning.

Gateway would pick up their first run in the sixth. Brandon Peters led off with a double and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. He scored on Joseph Scaperotta's groundball to second base.

The Grizzlies did most of their damage in the seventh. The first three batters reached against starting pitcher Dustin Renfrow, who struck out Alex Kerins but was lifted after walking Peters. With the lead cut to 3-2, Kai Tuomi came on and struck out Joe Agreste for the second out. Scaperotta delivered the hit of the night though, singling up the middle to score two runs and put Gateway up 4-3.

The Otters would put only one man on base in the final two innings, and he would not advance past first. Chris Wiman pitched a perfect ninth inning for his eighth save of the year and second in as many days against Evansville.

Renfrow (4-6) surrendered four runs in 6 1/3 innings. Grizzlies' reliever Collin Brennan (1-0) picked up the win, tossing two scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Otters will look to avoid the sweep Sunday at 3:05pm CDT.
