Rockford RiverHawks News Release
MARION, Ill. - On Sunday, the Southern Illinois Miners outlasted the Rockford RiverHawks, 5-4, for a three-game series victory.
Trailing 5-0, the RiverHawks rallied for four two-out runs in the top of the eighth, but the Miners held the off the RiverHawks in the ninth for the win.
The Miners never lost the lead after Brad Miller's two-run single in the bottom of the first. The Miners added a tally in each of the next three innings on two RBI-singles and a double to extend the lead, 5-0.
Rockford starter Kyle Wright (10-2) took the loss, his first since May 28. The loss snapped a six-game win streak, including three consecutive complete-game victories. Wright was 10-0 in his last 12 starts. Wright allowed five runs on 11 hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out three. He was pitching on three days of rest.
Miners starter Joe Augustine (6-3) earned the win and did not allow any runs over seven innings. He struck out nine and walked one while holding the âHawks to six hits.
The Miners' Mike Damchuk entered in the ninth with one out and the tying run at first. He induced Javier Brown to ground into a double play. Jason James followed with a deep fly ball to right field that was caught at the warning track, and Damchuk earned his fourth save.
The RiverHawks fell to 5 ½ games out of first place as Windy City defeated River City, 6-2. The RiverHawks remain three games out of the final wild card playoff spot.
The RiverHawks come home for a six-game homestand at 7:05 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11., against Washington. It is a Two-For Tuesday. Tickets are two for the price of one, and so are hot dogs.
