Evansville Otters News Release

Evansville, IN- The Evansville Otters (46-25) and the Southern Illinois Miners (46-25 are once again tied atop the East Division of the Frontier League. The winner of today's game will finish the week in first after the Miners took game two of the series, 7-2, last night.

It was a game in which the Otters offense never got going and the Miners scored seven runs in the first three innings; the only offense for the Otters coming on a triple by Josh Allen in the fifth and a solo home run by John Schultz in the ninth.

The pitching matchup for today's game pits two of the best pitchers in the Frontier League up against one another. The Southern Illinois Miners will throw their strikeout wizard Matt Bywater. Bywater on the season is 8-4 with a 2.54 ERA. He leads the Frontier League in strikeouts with 116, amassing that total in just 99 innings pitched. The Otters will combat the stellar lefty Bywater with their own terrific righty-hurler Trevor Walch.

Walch has been one of, if not the, best pitcher's in the Frontier League this summer. Despite a record of only 8-5, Walch has had the best ERA in the league for almost the entire summer and currently holds the best mark among all qualified pitchers with a 1.49 ERA. He also leads the league in complete games with four, which is tied for the lead along with Jordan Kraus of the Frontier Greys. Two of Walch's four complete games this summer have come against the Miners, but both have been losses. The last time Walch was out on the mound was last Sunday against the Miners where he allowed just two runs in eight innings, but was saddled with the loss.

This will be the second time this season that Walch and Bywater will go toe-to-toe on the mound. The last time the two faced-off against each other was back on June 12th when the Otters lost 3-0. In that game Walch yet again went eight in Marion, IL, but Bywater was unhittable...literally, tossing the second no-hitter in Miners history.

Tonight's game starts at 5:05 pm CDT with the pregame show featuring Mike Radomski, Bill McKeon and Jake Donnelly starting at 4:45 pm CDT.
