Rockford Aviators News Release

NORMAL, IL - The Aviators fell 8-5 in their finale with the Normal CornBelters on Sunday, going down for the 3rd time in 3 tries at the Corn Crib. The Belters used a 5-run 5th inning to complete the sweep and move into a tie with the Aviators in the West Division.

David Diaz started the game for the Aviators. The first-year pro surrendered 3 hits and 2 runs in the first to give the Belters an early advantage. The Aviators would catch up on Justin Fox's 2nd HR of the series in the 2nd and on a sac fly by Anthony Renteria in the 3rd.

The tie was short-lived though, as the Belters scored once in their hitting half of the 3rd before exploding for 5, punctuated by a 3-run HR by Richard Lucas, in the 5th. The Aviators would score once in the 7th, 8th, and 9th each but it was too little too late as they fell to the Belters 8-5 despite winning in the hits department, 10-9.

Raul Linares picked up his first 2 hits in an Aviator uniform, going off for a double and an RBI single in the contest. Michael Hur also had two hits in the game.

The two sides meet again at Aviators Stadium for a 3-game set that starts August 28.

The Aviators first return home to welcome Evansville on Tuesday. First pitch in Loves Park will be thrown at 6:35. For tickets to the game or any contest at Aviators Stadium, call 815-885-BALL. You can also email tickets@rockfordaviators.com.
