Washington Wild Things News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - Despite scoring two runs in the first inning, the Wild Things were unable to hold their lead over the Schaumburg Boomers, falling by a score of 3-2 in the series finale. Starter Raul Jacobson picked up the victory, while Tim Flight suffered the loss.
In the top of the first, Washington collected four consecutive hits and plated two runs. Left fielder Andrew Heck and second baseman Matt Ford, who was three for four on the afternoon, connected on back-to-back singles before third baseman Sam Mende clubbed a double to drive both of them in.
Schaumburg relied on the long ball to claw their way back into contention. In the bottom of the third, left fielder Kyle Ruchim belted a solo home run, one of his four hits in the game. The next inning over, shortstop Craig Massey added a solo shot of his own, tying the game at two a piece. The Boomers would seize the lead in the sixth when Cam Sherrer drove in designated hitter Willi Martin with a single.
For the second night in a row, reliever Tim Giel tossed two shutout innings, but it was not enough as the Wild Things were unable to amount a comeback.
