Ottawa 67's News Release

A capacity crowd of over 6,200 at TD Place watched the Erie Otters and star centre Connor McDavid roll into town and score a 7-2 win over the host Ottawa 67's on Sunday.

Despite getting the game's first goal from alternate captain Brendan Bell early in the opening period and taking the Otters to the first intermission knotted at one, the 67's fell too far behind in the second, running on fumes playing a third game in as many days.

Travis Dermott, Dylan Strome, Jake Marchment and Nepean native Nick Baptiste scored for the Otters, while the Erie defence and goalie Devin Williams kept the 67's off the board in the middle frame.

McDavid, the sure-fire top pick in the upcoming NHL draft, finished the day with three assists, while Strome and Alex DeBrincat had a goal and two assists each for the Otters.

Sam Studnicka also scored for the 67's, which lost for just the fifth time at home in regulation this season. The loss also ended a streak for Ottawa, which had gone seven consecutive games without a loss in regulation (six wins and one overtime setback).

The Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group, operators of the 67's the REDBLACKS and Fury FC, announced on Sunday that fans of the 67's had raised $12,122.02 in a fundraising effort for Neil Doef, the Smiths Falls Bears hockey player who suffered a severe spinal cord injury during a tournament game in December.

The 67's get a day off on Monday and return to practice on Tuesday afternoon. The next game is at home at TD Place on Friday, February 6 against the Peterborough Petes at 7:30 p.m.
