Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals took on the Kingston Frontenacs today for the fourth time this season in an afternoon matchup. The Frontenacs continued their win streak over the Generals tonight, taking the victory 3-2 in overtime.

The game was evenly matched despite the Generals being a first place team and the Frontenacs listed as a seventh place team. Lawson Crouse, who represented Team Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, opened the scoring for the game, putting a quick one past Ken Appleby at 4:58. At 7:42, Cassels, Smith, and Duchense all headed to the penalty box with Duchense and Smith sitting for unsportsmanlike conduct and Cassels sitting for roughing. Smith dropped the gloves and was looking for a fight against Duchense but he declined and Smith was given a game misconduct for his unsportsmanlike conduct. No goals were scored during this time. However, at 9:11, Jared Steege was called for tripping and the Generals made the most of the power play with Mitchell Vande Sompel scoring, assisted by Michael Dal Colle and Cole Cassels. The assist marked Cassels 60th point of the season and continues his point streak to 11 games. With less than a minute left in the period, tension was building and Michael McCarron and Lawson Crouse ended the period with a fight that got the crowd fired up. Both players were given five minutes each for fighting. The period ended tied at 1-1 with the Generals outshooting the Frontenacs 12-8.

The second period started off with a lot of action. Jared Steege was called for tripping only 42 seconds into the period and the Generals scored what looked like a goal by Michael Dal Colle. It was determined to not be a goal but a Kingston player put their hand on the puck in the goalie crease, granting the Generals a penalty shot. Dal Colle was up but he couldn't get the penalty shot past Lucas Pressini. Dal Colle pressed on however and at 2:28 scored a goal for the Generals, assisted by Smith and Cassels. There were four more penalties through the period including two minutes to Wallace for hooking. With Wallace in the box for less than 15 seconds, the Frontenacs scored a power play goal, this time scored by Conor McGlynn, assisted by Lammikko and Crouse. At 15:28, Graves and McCarron both took a turn in the box with matching penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct. Again, the period ended tied, this time a two apiece with the Frontenacs outshooting the Generals 11-10.

In the third period, both sides were chipping away, trying to find the game winning goal. The Generals had 19 chances through the period, but Peressini and the Fronts defense made their job difficult, preventing any of the shots from going in the net. The Frontenacs could only get seven shots on goal during the third and also couldn't make any of the chances into goals. The game ended with the score tied at 2-2 and the teams took to their benches to prepare for overtime. The Generals had a one man advantage during overtime, thanks to a tripping call for McEneny. Although the Generals spent most of overtime in the Frontenacs end, four Generals sticks broke within 30 seconds and once again, no goals could be put past Peressini. Ultimately, the game ended with a six round shootout in which Conor McGlynn scored the lone goal and his second of the game. Ken Appleby had a fantastic game and put in an amazing effort to try and keep the Generals in it tonight.

The Generals now have five days to re-focus before their next game which takes place this Friday, Feb. 6 against the Windsor Spitfires. Puck drop is at 7:35 p.m., purchase tickets by clicking here, visiting the GM Centre Box Office, or calling 1-877-436-8811.
