Erie Otters News Release

Ottawa, Ontario - Eleven Otters combined for seven goals in Erie's 7-2 win over the Ottawa 67s, including four players with three points.

Brendan Bell and Cory Genovese waited one minute and forty nine seconds before deciding to drop the gloves and kickstart their teams. It took a little time and a four-minute power play, but Ottawa struck first. After Kurtis MacDermid was given a double-minor for checking Travis Konecny from behind with just over seven minutes to go, the Otters killed the first half of the penalty, but early into the second half, Bell put the puck in from a tight angle for the lead. Nick Betz and Jake Marchment both had nice chances, but with Nevin Guy in the box after sashing Nick Baptiste, Alex DeBrincat scored his sixteenth power play goal to tie the game with an assist from Connor McDavid.

Where the 67s started off the first period, the Otters controlled the second. Remi Elie nearly scored in close, but he did draw a penalty, sending Dante Salituro to the box. Travis Dermott took a feed from McDavid and Dylan Strome in the high slot, sending a rocket behind Liam Herbst.

Devin Williams made a couple of quick saves before Strome skated in, put the puck on net and picked up his own rebound for the goal. Two and a half minutes later, Baptiste waited in front of Herbst, let the Ottawa netminder dive for the puck, and put the puck in the open net, making it 4-1 with the Otters' fourth unanswered goal and the third in five minutes and seven seconds.

The Otters didn't slow down in the third. Marchment picked up his first goal as an Otter from Kyle Pettit and Darren Raddysh. Sam Studnicka found the back of the Otters net to get Ottawa back on the board before Elie, on a feed from DeBrincat, made it 6-2 five minutes later.

It took another minute for DeBrincat to pass to McDavid to McDermid for a 7-2 Otters lead. Some late pushing and shoving resulting in coincidental 10-minute misconducts to Dermott and Bell, and roughing minors to Genovese and Alex Lintuniemi, but the score didn't change, leaving the Otters with the 7-2 victory.

Strome holds the longest active OHL point streak with 16 games. McDavid has a point in all but one game played this season. Marchment's goal was his first in ten games with the Otters. DeBrincat, Strome, Raddysh and McDavid all notched three points in the win.

The Otters head home for the weekend, welcoming the Western Conference-leading Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday at 7 p.m. before the London Knights come to Erie Saturday at 7 p.m.
