Ostlund & Rodriguez join Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Detroit Tigers announced today that left-handed pitcher Ian Ostlund and right-handed pitcher Jermy Rodriguez will join the West Michigan Whitecaps. Rodriguez joined the team in Beloit on Sunday; Ostlund is expected to arrive in Grand Rapids later this afternoon. To make room on the roster for Ostlund and Rodriquez, the Tigers have released right-handed pitcher Dan Smith and sent lefty reliever Chris Steinborn to extended spring training.

Ostlund has been with the Lakeland Tigers for the beginning of the 2003 season. In 2002, he pitched for the Gulf Coast League Tigers, earning a 2-3 record with a 2.89 ERA. Rodriquez has been in extended spring training this season. In 2002 he pitched for the Dominican Summer League Tigers, earning a 7-1 record with a 1.08 ERA.
