
Kernels acquire 2 pitchers

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa â The Kernels announced Monday that right-handed pitchers Dustin Griffith and Phil Wilson have been assigned to Cedar Rapids. Both played for the Kernels in previous seasons.
Griffith joins the Kernels from Rancho Cucamonga of the California League, where he was 1-0 with a 2.61 ERA in six appearances. He played for the Kernels last season and was 5-4 with a 3.91 ERA. He also saved two games. Griffith was activated before Sunday's game at Battle Creek.
Wilson joins the Kernels from extended spring training. He played for the Kernels in 2000, when he was 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA. He split the 2001 and 2002 seasons between Rancho Cucamonga and Arkansas of the Texas League.Wislon will start tonight's game against Dayton.
To make room on the roster for Griffith and Wilson, the Kernels placed right-handed pitcher James Holcomb on the disabled list, retroactive to May 1, with a right shoulder strain. They also assigned Hector Astacio to extended spring training.
Astacio was the Kernels' opening day pitcher, but had struggled in his last two outings, allowing 12 hits and 10 runs in 4 1/3 innings. Overall, he was 2-2 with a 4.18 ERA.
