Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - November 11th, 2011 - The Oshawa Generals are teaming up with the United Way to make a difference in our community. Boone Jenner, Scott Laughton, and the Oshawa Generals organization are proud to launch "Point the Way for United Way".
Starting Saturday, November 12th, 2011 and continuing for the rest of the regular season, a collection of caring organizations and individuals will be making a financial contribution for every point tallied by Boone and Scott. The funds raised will be used by the United Way to benefit the Durham Region.
"We are proud to be "Teaming up" with the Oshawa Generals, and particularly proud that Boone Jenner and Scott Laughton will be scoring points on the ice and helping to build a better community for all as our "Scoring Ambassadors for the United Way" stated Bob Howard, United Way Durham Region Campaign Director. "We know that all Generals fans will cheer on their efforts, but more importantly, will join us in saluting their community leadership."
"The United Way is such a worthy cause, with so many different charities supporting people in different ways. So when Scott and Boone took the initiative and came to us with this idea, looking for a way to give back to the community, it was a great fit" says Tricia Leone, Oshawa Generals Community Relations Manager. "I'm glad we were able to bring the boys and the United Way together to create this fantastic program."
The United Way supports more than 50 local charities which provide service to more than 150,000 people all across Durham Region. From food banks and shelters for women and children to programs which support seniors and/or those who face the challenges of living with a disability: This single broad community wide effort helps seniors, kids, and families alike in a myriad of ways.
Throughout the rest of the year, individuals and community partners are invited to join us as "Point the Way 4 United Way Partners". The financial contribution from our partners for each point registered by Boone and Scott will support the critical work of more than 50 charities all across Durham Region.
