
Orlando's Sparks Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Garret Sparks of the Orlando Solar Bears is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 2-8.
Sparks went 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 0.67 goals-against average and a save percentage of .977 in three appearances last week.
The 21-year-old made 27 saves in a 3-1 win at Gwinnett on Tuesday, stopped all 34 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory at Greenville on Thursday and had 23 saves in a 4-1 win at Gwinnett on Saturday.
Under an NHL contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sparks has appeared in 20 games with the Solar Bears this season posting a 12-3-1 record with three shutouts, a 2.34 goals-against average - which is fifth in the league - and a league-leading .936 save percentage. He has gone 10-1-1 in his last 12 decisions, allowing two goals or less in nine of those games.
A native of Elmhurst, Ill., Sparks has seen action in 30 career games with Orlando going 16-9-1 with four shutouts, a 2.51 goals-against average and a save percentage of .929. He has posted an 11-6-5 record in 26 career appearances with Toronto of the American Hockey League, including his first career AHL shutout with a 23-save performance on Dec. 28, 2014.
Prior to turning pro, he played three seasons with Guelph of the Ontario Hockey League where he went 71-48-9 with 12 shutouts, a 2.97 goals-against average and a save percentage of .909.
