Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears announced today that they have agreed to terms with goaltender Nick Niedert.
Niedert (5'8", 185 lbs.) played one game for the Reading Royals this year, [image: Nick Niedert] stopping 20 of 22 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Wheeling Nailers on October 27. He appeared in games with five different teams last year, including Elmira, Trenton, and Wheeling of the ECHL as well as Danbury in the Federal Hockey League (FHL) and Knoxville in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).
The Hudson, Iowa, native's professional career has included stops in the ECHL, FHL, SPHL, CHL (Central Hockey League), AAHL (All-American Hockey League), IHL (International Hockey League), EPHL (Eastern Professional Hockey League), and MAHL (Mid-Atlantic Hockey League). Niedert played in 42 games with the Jersey Rockhoppers (EPHL) in 2008-09, leading them to the EPHL Championship and being named the EPHL MVP. That season, Niedert posted a .905 save percentage, 3.80 GAA, and 25-15-2 overall record.
Before turning pro, Niedert played 50 games in the NAHL (North American Hockey League) from 2001-03. In 2002-03, he appeared in 47 games for the Springfield Jr. Blues with a 3.93 GAA and .875 save percentage.
The Solar Bears have placed goaltender Mike Brodeur on reserve.
