Game Rewind
Wednesday, October 31st @ Cincinnati Cyclones (Cincinnati 3-Kalamazoo 2)
Cincinnati, OH- A goal from Garrett Wilson (4th) with 38 seconds remaining in regulation propelled the Cincinnati Cyclones (4-0-2-0) past the Kalamazoo Wings (5-2-0-0) Wednesday night at the U.S. Bank Arena creating a first place tie in the North Division between the division rivals.
Despite being outshot 12-5 in the first period, Kalamazoo was able to hold Cincinnati to a scoreless opening period.
Flying in from the slot, Aaron Clarke (2nd) slid in a Nick Sirota rebound past Brian Foster 5:52 into the second period to give the K-Wings the 1-0 advantage.
Finding space between the circles, David Pacan (3rd) pulled the Cyclones even lifting a wrister over Joel Martin late in the stanza. The goal was Pacan's team-leading seventh point of the season.
Early in the third period, Brett Lysak (1st) reclaimed a one-goal advantage for the K-Wings by one-timing a Eric Kattelus cross rink pass over the outstretch glove hand of Foster. Kattelus (2 goals, 5 assists) who was playing in his 100th career pro contest, tied Sam Ftorek for the team-lead in scoring notching his seventh-point of the season with the assist.
The Cyclones came into the contest as the league's top third period team outscoring their opposition 6-2 in the final period and the closing 12 minutes of Wednesday's encounter didn't shed any doubt of Cincinnati's dominance in the final stanza.
Taken down on a breakaway, Taylor Aronson brought the game even netting his first tally of the season on the ensuing penalty shot.
Wilson capped off the comeback scoring his team-leading fourth goal of the season on a third chance opportunity past Martin to secure the victory.
The Cyclones, who snapped the K-Wings four-game winning streak, extended their unbeaten streak in regulation to six games (4-0-2-0) and in the process raised their record to 4-0-0-0 when Wilson finds the back of the net.
Friday, November 2nd Vs Cincinnati Cyclones (Cincinnati 5-Kalamazoo 4)
Kalamazoo, MI- For the second-straight game, the Cincinnati Cyclones (5-0-2-0) used a goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to defeat the Kalamazoo Wings (5-3-0-0), this time 5-4 Saturday night at Wings Stadium.
Taking the early lead by doing what only one other team has done, Cincinnati's jumped ahead with a power-play goal from Andrew Hotham (1st). Digging the puck out of the right corner, Hotham was able to skate between the circles and beat Joel Martin with a wrist shot 3:25 into the period.
The goal was just the second first period goal surrendered by the K-Wings in eight games this season and the first since October 13th against Toledo.
The second period started off well for the K-Wings when Joe Charlebois (2nd) scored off a loose puck in front of the net and buried Kalamazoo's first goal of the game, tying the score at 1-1.
Continuing the theme of defense providing the offense, Elgin Reid (3rd) tipped home a shot from the point provided by Sam Ftorek. Collecting his second assist was Brett Lysak on the goal who also assisted the Charlebois goal. Reid's goal extended his point streak to three games.
However, that is where the second period fun ended for the home team. Cincinnati let loose a flurry of goals. Starting it off was Mike Pelech (2nd) who was credited for the goal after a pass from behind the net by Francois Bouchard hit off of Pelech skate and found its way into the back of the net.
It only took 14 seconds for Cincinnati to take the lead at 3-2 when Matias Lindstrom (1st) threw the puck across the net and it hit off of a Kalamazoo player and slipped by Martin.
The final goal of the frame came only 51 seconds later when Jonathan Hazen (2nd) slotted home a quick wrister to cap of a three goals in 1:05 stretch midway through the period.
Down but not out, Lysak (2nd, 3rd) pulled the K-Wings even late in the third period, netting a pair of power-play goals to cap off a four-point night.
Kalamazoo's jubilation was cut short, when Mike Embach (1st) sent a pass from behind the net that caromed off of Martin for the eventual game-winner with 2:48 remaining in regulation.
Saturday, November 3rd Vs Fort Wayne Komets (Fort Wayne 6-Kalamazoo 5)
Kalamazoo, MI- Falling behind four goals in the second period proved to be too much for the Kalamazoo Wings (5-4-0-0), as they dropped their third straight contest, this time a 6-5 decision to the Fort Wayne Komets (5-2-0-1).
Sparked by an early power-play, John Armstrong (1st) gave the K-Wings the lead by netting his first of the season. Setup by a dump in by Kyle Page, Kory Karlander chipped the loose puck to the Armstrong, who was camped in front of the Komets net 2:36 into the game.
Pulling even late in the period following a K-Wings turnover, Jean-Michel Rizk (2nd) scored off a cross-rink pass from Brandon Marino. The assist extended Marino's point streak to five games.
Prior to Saturday, the Komets were outscored 7-2 in the second period this season, but no one gave that memo to Fort Wayne. Exploding for four goals to start the period, the Komets went ahead 5-1.
Thomas Beauregard (3rd, 4th) netted the first two in the period for Fort Wayne. The initial tally came on a wrister between the circles 1:36 into the stanza and his second on a rebound.
Skating up the right wing, Josh Brittain (3rd) received a drop pass from Nick Schaus, who had assists on the first three Komets goals in the period. Brittain riffled a slap shot past Joe Cannata to extend the Komets lead to three goals.
Daniel Maggio pushed the Komets lead to 5-1 at the 14:31 mark of the middle frame with a slap shot from the right point. Also assisting on the goal was Colin Chaulk, who extended his point streak to five games.
Trying to mount a comeback late in the period, Darren Archibald lit the lamp for his team-best fourth time in the season with a power-play marker 15:26 into the period. Eric Kattelus increased his point streak to five games with an assist on the tally.
Less than two minutes later, Dustin Cloutier (1st) one-timed a Sam Ftorek pass past Marco Cousineau to cut the Komets lead to 5-3.
Catching the Komets in the a line change, the K-Wings created a four-on-one rush, in which Adam Polasek (1st) would tip in a rebound with 10:22 remaining to bring Kalamazoo within a single goal.
Moments later, Cousineau would leave the game with an injury following a shot from Kory Karlander.
Capping off a hat trick, Beauregard (5th) put the game out of reach with an empty-netter with 56 seconds remaining.
Bringing it back to a single-goal, Nick Sirota (2nd) tacked on a goal for K-Wings with 4. 7 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
Cannata (2-1-0-0) finished the game 30 saves, while Cousineau left the contest with 33 saves; his replacement Charlie Effinger (2-1-0-0) stopped three shots and earned the victory.
