Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - Trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the LumberKings put the tying run at second base in every inning except the eighth, and failed to score.

The missed opportunities cost Clinton as they lost to the Beloit Snappers, 3-2, at Ashford University Field on Monday night. The LumberKings left ten runners on base and in the last three games have hit .133 (4-for-30) with runners in scoring position. Clinton has played nine one-run games, the most in the Midwest League, but are now 1-8 in those games.

The Snappers jumped on the scoreboard early on Renato Nunez's run-scoring single in the top of the first. The lead was short-lived as Clinton scored a pair in the bottom of the second. Hits by Dario Pizzano, Marcus Littlewood and Jordy Lara combined with a throwing error by right-fielder John Wooten gave Clinton a 2-1 lead.

Beloit was back with single tallies in the third and fourth to regain the lead at 3-2; a lead they wouldn't give up.

Relievers Chris Lamb and Ryan Dull both worked out of jams to combine for three scoreless innings. Dull picked up his first save of the year while starter Raul Alcantara picked up his second win.

Littlewood and Lara each had multi-hit games for Clinton while David Holman and Grady Wood combined for five scoreless innings in relief of Scott DeCecco.

The two teams play a matinee affair on Tuesday. The rubber match is scheduled for a 12:30 PM CT start time at Ashford University Field.

The Clinton LumberKings, Midwest League Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, play at Ashford University Field. For the full 2013 schedule, season ticket and group party information, merchandise and more, call the LumberKings at 563-242-0727 or visit www.lumberkings.com.
