Great Lakes Loons News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - Victor Arano, Greg Harris and Mark Pope combined on a masterful four-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over the Lake County Captains. The Loons have taken the first two games of the three-game series.
Arano started and was masterful, limiting the Captains to just three hits and a walk over five innings, throwing approximately 60 pitches to record 15 outs.
Greg Harris (4-4) entered in relief and continued the stellar pitching. Over three innings, he faced the minimum allowing just one walk and striking out two.
The ninth inning belonged to Mark Pope, who saved his sixth game of the season with a scoreless ninth with one hit and one strikeout.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh inning. Brandon Trinkwon led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a successful sacrifice by Jacob Scavuzzo. That set up the only run of the game, and it came from an unlikely source. Delvis Morales - who entered the game just 3-for-30 - singled to right to drive in Trinkwon from second.
Alexis Parades (1-1) took the loss with two walks, a hit batsman and two hits allowed. Robbie Aviles allowed just two hits and two walks over six scoreless frames but did not factor in the decision for the Captains.
The Loons (25-26) seek their second series sweep of the season and their first since mid-April at Beloit with a Tuesday evening matchup with the Captains (17-34). Right-handed pitcher Jonathan Martinez (4-5, 3.47 ERA) starts for the Loons against Captains righty Dace Kime (0-7, 7.08). Game time is 6:30pm and will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
The Loons return to Dow Diamond Saturday, May 31 at 7:05pm for Star Wars Night, featuring a post-game Fireworks Loontacular, powered by Dow Corning. Tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL.
The Great Lakes Loons are an eighth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. For tickets and more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com, or call 989-837-BALL.
