Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - Isaac Omura delivered four hits and three RBIs, and Jared Lansford lasted seven innings for the second consecutive start to lead the Kane County Cougars past the Burlington Bees in 7-5 fashion Thursday night in front of 7,405 fans at Elfstrom Stadium.
The Cougars gave Lansford an early-three run cushion by breaking through against Bees starter Mario Santiago in the opening inning. Jose Pineda cracked a two-run single, and Chad Boyd poked a sacrifice fly.
Steve Kleen led off the fourth inning with a solo home run, and Isaac Omura, who owns a 10-game hitting streak, plated Todd Johnson with a run-scoring double for a 5-0 affair. Meanwhile Lansford (8-5) continued to blank the Bees, tossing three different 1-2-3 innings and allowing three hits over the seven frames to become the Cougars' first eight-game winner.
Burlington managed two runs in the eighth against newcomer Branden Dewing, who joined the team Thursday from Short-A Vancouver. Then the Cougars answered with a two-run single by Omura for a 7-2 score heading to the ninth. The Bees battled back with three runs against John Herrera, but Brad Kilby entered to nail down his third save and pin the loss on Santiago (1-2).
The Cougars (12-9) look to take the finale from the Bees (9-12) Friday night at 6:30 CDT when Joe Piekarz (3-3, 2.93) faces Carlos Rosa (6-5, 3.02).
