South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend - Regardless of the size of any teams win streak, there comes a time when said team realizes it may not add the next win to keep the streak alive. Thursday night was that night for the South Bend Silver Hawks, who trialed late, tied the game, but eventually lost and saw their six game win streak end in a 6-4 loss to the Dayton Dragons.

The teams battled to a scoreless tie until the fourth inning. Jay Bruce opened the inning with a walk, stole second and came home on B.J. Szymanski's RBI single, giving the Dragons a 1-0 lead.

Szymanski increased the Dragons lead to 2-0, scoring Mike Griffin with a sacrifice fly ball to left field in the sixth.

The Hawks pulled within one in their half of the sixth. Pedro Ciriaco led off with a triple to center and with one out recorded, scored on Dayton starting pitcher Zach Ward's wild pitch, cutting Dayton's lead to 2-1.

The Dragons tallied two more runs in the eighth, but the Hawks were able to catch Dayton, scoring three runs in their eighth inning.

In the ninth, Eric Eymann opened with a double down the left-field line and moved to third on Josh Holden's bunt single. Mike DeJesus then doubled to right field scoring Eymann and moving Holden to third, making it a 5-4 game. Holden scored the Dragons final run, when relief pitcher Enmanuel Duran let loose a wild pitch for Dayton's 6-4 lead.

The Silver Hawks (49-38, 16-5) complete their three game series Friday night with the Dragons. First pitch is slated for 7PM. Friday, AM 960 Weekday Sports Beat will broadcast live from the Budweiser Bullpen Bar and Grille, with Rick Carter serving as host.
