
Omaha Takes Two from Albuquerque

PAPILLION, Neb. - The Albuquerque Isotopes (8-7) dropped both games of a doubleheader 3-2 to the Omaha Storm Chasers (9-6) Friday, April 19 at Werner Park in Nebraska.
Isotopes' starting pitcher Blake Johnson suffered the loss in game one falling to 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA on the season but tossed all six innings for Albuquerque. He held Omaha at bay for most of the game allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits. The righty did not walk a batter and struck out five.
After two scoreless innings to start the game by both clubs, Omaha cracked through in the third frame with two runs to take the lead. 3B Irving Falu (1-for-2) singled with one out in the inning in front of RF Anthony Seratelli. Seratelli (1-for-2) blasted his second home run of the season.
Albuquerque took advantage of the long ball to tie the game at two in the top half of the fifth inning. 1B Scott Van Slyke (1-for-3) led off with a single to center field. Two batters later, LF Nick Buss (1-for-3) belted his fourth home run of the season collecting two RBI.
The Storm Chasers broke the tie with the eventual game-winning run the home half of the sixth inning. LF David Lough (0-for-3) reached base safely to lead off the inning via a throwing error by SS Dee Gordon. Johnson retired the next two batters but allowed a two-out double to LF Xavier Nady (1-for-3). Nady's third double of the season scored Lough.
LHP Donnie Joseph (1-0, 1.35) earned the win for Omaha pitching a perfect inning of relief for starter Ryan Verdugo. Joseph struck out a hitter. Blaine Boyer picked up his first save of the season striking out two Isotopes in his perfect seventh inning of work.
Albuquerque did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard in game two of the doubleheader. SS Dee Gordon (2-for-3) singled to begin the game and advanced to third on a single by RF Alex Castellanos (2-for-3). 1B Scott Van Slyke (0-for-2) drove Gordon in on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Gordon started the offense again in the third inning. The shortstop single and moved to third on a wild pitched resulting in a walk to 2B Elian Herrera (0-for-2). Castellanos drove Gordon in on his second base hit of the day extending the Albuquerque lead to 2-0.
Omaha came right back in its half of the third to tie the game at two. LF David Lough (3-for-4) singled with one out and was pushed up a base to second on a 2B Johnny Giavotella (2-for-3) single. First baseman Max Ramirez followed with his fourth double on the year scoring Lough and Giavotella.
RHP Javy Guerra went four innings for the Isotopes before being relieved by righty Angel Castro. Guerra allowed two runs on six hits. He also struck out three and walked one. Castro (1-1, 4.50) took the loss allowing a run on three hits in two innings of work.
Omaha RHP Nate Adcock (2-0, 2.40) earned the win allowing two runs, one earned, over six innings of work. Adcock struck out four and walked one. RHP Michael Mariot picked up his third save on the year firing a perfect seventh inning.
Albuquerque returns home to play the Oklahoma City RedHawks in a four-game series beginning tomorrow Saturday, April 20 at 7:05 PM. The Topes will host a drive-thru fundraiser from 9am-2pm at Isotopes Park Saturday to collect donations to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. All proceeds go to the One Fund Boston, Inc. Isotopes' RHP Sean White (0-1, 5.00) opens the series against Oklahoma City righty Jarred Cosart (1-0, 0.71).
