
Rainiers Foiled By Fresno In Extras

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers stumbled late and fell to the Fresno Grizzlies 11-6 in extra innings at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.
With the scored tied at 6-6, the Grizzlies pulled ahead for good with five runs in the top of the 11th inning. Kensuke Tanaka singled in the go-ahead run for Fresno with one out in the frame. Gary Brown, Juan Perez and Todd Linden each chipped run-scoring singles to help stretch an already insurmountable Grizzlies lead to an five runs.
The Rainiers collected a combined seven hits and walked eight times in the contest. One day after hitting for the cycle, infielder Carlos Triunfel led the lineup again after going 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI. Infielder Nick Franklin homered for the second consecutive game - a solo shot that put Tacoma up 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The pitching staff combined to strikeout a season-high 13 batters and issued just two walks. Left-handed reliever Brian Moran (1-1) was dealt the loss after surrendering all five runs in the 11th on seven hits. Starter Brian Sweeney allowed four runs on six hits over 4.0 innings.
The Rainiers (7-8) host the club's final game of the homestand at 7 p.m. tomorrow, April 19th. Left-handed pitching prospect Danny Hultzen (2-1, 2.70) is scheduled start for Tacoma against right-hander Yusmeiro Petit (1-1, 6.32) for the Grizzlies. Friday Night Fireworks will immediately follow the game.
