Tucson Padres News Release
Thad Weber and Tommy Layne combined to shut out Salt Lake for eight innings and Gregorio Petit's defensive play in the ninth sealed a 3-2 win for the Tucson Padres Thursday at Kino Stadium.
The Padres jumped ahead 1-0 in the second inning on Rene Rivera's sacrifice fly to center bringing home Cody Decker. Brandon Allen's solo home run in the fourth and RBI double in the eighth extended Tucson's lead to 3-0.
The Bees rallied for two runs in the ninth on three hits and had a chance for more when Roberto Lopez tried to score from second base on a ground ball up the middle. Petit made a diving stop to keep the ball on the infield and threw out Lopez at home for the final out of the game.
Weber improved to 2-0 on the year. He struck out five and walked only one. Weber has surrendered only one run in 11 innings this season.
