Omaha Storm Chasers June 19th Game Notes
June 19, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
LAST NIGHT'S LOSS: The Storm Chasers dropped the series opener to the Albuquerque Isotopes by a score of 4-1, and with the loss fell to a season-high nine games under .500. It was Omaha's sixth loss in the last eight games, as well as the third consecutive game they have been held to three runs or less. Left-hander Chris Dwyer posted his team-high ninth quality start of the season in a losing effort, tying a career high in any professional year for the southpaw already.
TWO VS THE TOPES, AGAIN: The Storm Chasers are set to begin their fifth doubleheader of the season, the most for any team in the Pacific Coast League. Three of the five have come against the Isotopes, accounting for all three of their twin bills. Omaha had played only three doubleheaders in the last five seasons combined (one in 2010, two in 2008). Omaha played only three doubleheaders total last season.
WERNER WOES: The Storm Chasers were held to three or less runs for the 31st time this season last night (7-24 in those games), but it was the seventh time in the last eight home games they have been held to less than three runs (7-0 series finale vs Oklahoma City on June 9 the only exception). In the last eight home games, the Chasers have put up 14 total runs (22 runs in the nine home games in June).
TEA LIKE YOU DRINK, FORD LIKE YOU DRIVE: Game two starter Everett Teaford will be making his sixth start of the year, matching the amount he made last year for the Chasers. The left-hander has not suffered the loss in his last 13 starts for Omaha, after losing his first two career PCL starts. Over that stretch of 13 starts, Teaford has allowing nine runs (eight earned) over a total of 61 innings (1.18 ERA).
SUB-.500 DIVISION : The American Conference Northern Division is the only division in Minor League Baseball with no winning records (the four teams make up four of the bottom six teams in the league). Seven teams not in the playoffs in the PCL currently would lead the American North (including all three American South teams).
STRANGE SERIES SO FAR: Omaha and Albuquerque have played eight games so far in 2013, and only two of the first ten games will be nine-inning games (two extra innings, six doubleheader games). Over the past three seasons, the Isotopes and Omaha had only seven non nine-inning games (2012: two extra-inning games; 2011: one extra inning game; 2010: two extra-inning games, two doubleheader games).
