
Omaha Snaps Z's Win Streak at Four

Ed Lucas hit a pair of home runs, and the Omaha Royals used a four-run first inning to cruise past the New Orleans Zephyrs 7-2 on Tuesday night, snapping the Zephyrs' four-game winning streak.
With two out in the first, Scott Thorman had a two-run single, and Ed Lucas followed with a home run to put Omaha ahead 4-0.
Lucas helped the Royals' lead swell to 6-0 in the fourth inning, leading off the frame with a home run to left. Omaha tacked on another run on a bases-loaded double play ground out.
Manny Pina slugged a solo homer in the ninth, capping a 3-for-3 night.
The lone Zephyrs runs came on RBI ground outs, by Hector Luna in the sixth and Scott Cousins in the seventh.
Wes Whisler (0-2) was charged with the loss, surrendering six runs on 10 hits in six innings.
Jorge Sosa followed with two scoreless innings of relief, striking out five of the six batters he faced.
Bryan Bullington (6-1) pitched 6 1/3 strong innings for Omaha, scattering seven hits and yielding two runs while striking out five. Bullington's ERA held at 2.85, fifth-best in the Pacific Coast League.
Former LSU standout Louis Coleman made his Zephyr Field debut as a professional, striking out both batters he faced to end the eighth inning.
The series concludes on Wednesday with an 11:30 a.m. start, with Zephyrs southpaw Sean West matching up against Omaha right-hander Luis Mendoza. All area fishermen and their families will receive discounted admission of $5 with presentation of their fishing license.
