Iowa Cubs News Release

The Iowa Cubs were swept by the Albuquerque Isotopes in the doubleheader Tuesday night at Principal Park, 6-4 and 5-0.

The Cubs were held hitless through four innings in game one as Albuquerque won 6-4. Iowa did not post a run until the seventh inning, but it was too late.

The Isotopes posted a pair of runs in the second inning from Lucas May's two-run homer for the lead. A four-run third inning increased the Albuquerque lead to 6-0. Elian Herrera started off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an Iowa error. Herrera was caught stealing third base before Ivan DeJesus singled and Russ Mitchell doubled. Iowa pitcher Thomas Diamond walked in a run before May hit a sacrifice fly for the 4-0 Albuquerque lead. Michael Restovich then hit a two-run double to bring the total to six Isotopes runs.

Iowa scored all four of their runs in the seventh inning. Bryan LaHair doubled, advancing Micah Hoffpauir to third base. Ty Wright then plated Hoffpauir with a sacrifice fly to spoil the shutout. Chris Robinson walked and Matt Camp singled to load the bases with two outs. Pinch-hitter Brad Snyder doubled driving in three runs for the Cubs and making it a 6-4 ballgame. Next batter Sam Fuld struck out to end the game.

Thomas Diamond (5-3, 2.96) allowed nine hits and six runs over six innings of work for the loss. Albuquerque's James McDonald (5-1, 4.74) picked up the win.

Game two was scoreless until Albuquerque's five-run eighth inning that put them ahead for good. Starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija threw five scoreless innings, striking out eight. John Gaub (3-4, 6.52) allowed four runs and took the loss.

Iowa's Brad Snyder tallied the Cubs' only hit in game two. He was 2-for-5 with three RBI on the night.

The Cubs and Isotopes play again Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for :05 p.m.
