ROUND ROCK, Texas - Kevin Howard was a home run shy of the cycle with a key two-run triple as the Memphis Redbirds defeated the Round Rock Express 5-4 Tuesday night at The Dell Diamond. The Express (36-50) fall to 8-24 in one-run games; four of those losses have come in the last five days against the Redbirds (47-38).

Clinging to a 2-1 lead, Memphis had runners at second and third with one out in the sixth. Howard drilled the first pitch he saw from Express starter Shane Loux to the right-center gap, scoring both runs with a triple. Mark Shorey followed with a sacrifice fly to push the Memphis lead to 5-1.

Round Rock put together a rally over the next two innings but fell short. In his first game after three weeks on the disabled list, Edwin Maysonet doubled home Wladimir Sutil with two outs in the seventh. The Express loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth. Sutil delivered a one-out RBI single, and Collin DeLome plated another run with a sacrifice fly. However, the Express could get no closer as Maysonet flied out to right, stranding runners at first and second.

Salas, who entered the game after Sutil's RBI single in the eighth, pitched a perfect ninth for his 14th save of the season. Starter P.J. Walters (2-2) got the win, allowing one run on six hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over 6.0 innings.

Loux (2-6) took the loss; he allowed five runs on 10 hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 6.1 innings.

Memphis scored two runs on three hits in the third to snap a scoreless tie. Jim Rapoport delivered a one-out RBI double and later scored on Allen Craig's RBI groundout. The Express got a run back in the fourth as Drew Locke singled with one out and scored on a Loux groundout.

DeLome was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while German Duran was 2-for-3. Locke scored twice.

Howard was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI. Rapoport was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while Mike Folli was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Round Rock and Memphis conclude the four-game series Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Southpaw Wesley Wright (3-0, 4.67 ERA) will start for the Express, while right-hander Brandon Dickson (9-4, 2.76 ERA) gets the nod for the Redbirds.
