FIRST OMAHA BEEF FOOTBALL FOOD DRIVE RESULTS

In a partnership with the Omaha Food Bank, on Saturday, May 7th Beef Fans donated $396, which will distribute $3,726 in food to area families. For each $1 donated, $18 in food is distributed. Also, 207 lbs of food was donated.

ONLY ONE UNBEATEN AFTER WEEK 8

The Sioux City Bandits and Fort Wayne Freedom, United Indoor Football's only undefeated teams, squared off during Week 8 action in Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, May 7. Fort Wayne built a 9-0 lead five minutes into the first quarter and held on for a 57-50 win over the Bandits. The offense for both teams lived up to the hype, as the Bandits gained 318 net yards and Fort Wayne logged 270 net yards. Sioux City quarterback Jarrod DeGeorgia threw three touchdown passes while competing 20 of 34 for 208 yards.

DeGeorgia also reached the end zone on a one-yard rush with approximately 46 seconds remaining in the contest, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit. Bandit Fred Jackson, the UIF's Week 7 Offensive Player of the Week, scored twice on 17 carries while netting 77 yards. Jackson also caught a 10-yard pass for a touchdown. Sioux City wide receiver Johnny Ostermeyer caught seven passes from DeGeorgia for 113 yards and two touchdowns. The Freedom received incredible performances from running back Rocky Harvey and wide receiver Jeremy Dutcher, who each recorded four touchdowns. Harvey carried the ball 19 times for 84 yards, while Dutcher caught seven passes for 94 yards. Fort Wayne quarterback Bryan White was 17-27 passing for 173 yards with the four touchdowns to Dutcher. The Bandits and Head Coach Jose Jefferson fall to 6-1 on the season, while the Freedom and Head Coach Matt Land improve to 6-0. Sioux City entertains Interstate 29 and North Division rival Omaha on Saturday, May 14. The Freedom host Peoria on Friday, May 13. .

On Friday, May 6, the Lexington Horsemen and Ohio Valley Greyhounds battled in Wesbanco Arena. The contest was a rematch of Week 7, when the Horsemen defeated the Greyhounds 56-53 in Lexington, Kentucky. This time, it was Ohio Valley coming out on top 43-26. The Greyhounds limited the Lexington offense to just 141 net yards. Quarterback Dusty Bonner led Coach Bob Sphire's Lexington squad, throwing for 139 yards with two touchdowns. Lexington receiver Harry Lewis caught six passes for 44 yards with a touchdown, while Eric Magrini also reached the end zone with a five-yard catch. Horseman John Kendall Cooper gained 61 yards on six catches. Terrance Glover rushed nine times for 52 yards with three touchdowns to led Coach Mark Bonar's Greyhounds. Ohio Valley quarterback Antoine Taylor scored one rushing touchdown on nine carries for 63 yards, and running back Troy Albea reached the end zone once on 17 carries for 74 yards. Lexington (4-3) will host the Tupelo FireAnts on Sunday, May 15, while Ohio Valley (3-4) is idle next week before hosting Tupelo on May 21. .

In South Division action on Friday, the Tupelo FireAnts turned back the visiting Tennessee Valley Raptors 43-24 in the BancorpSouth Center. The FireAnts avenged a 36-20 loss to Tennessee Valley on April 16 with the victory. Tupelo quarterback Tommy Miller was 20-28 passing for 142 yards with three touchdowns. Miller also rushed five times, reaching the end zone once. Wide receiver Chris Edwards caught three passes from Miller for 44 yards and two touchdowns for the FireAnts and Head Coach John Fourcade. Tennessee Valley wide receiver Luke McArdle scored twice while catching four passes for 60 yards. Defense dominated the contest as the Raptors netted 185 yards of offense while the FireAnts gained 153 yards. Tupelo is now 2-5 on the year, while the Raptors and Head Coach Dick Adams fell to 2-4 on the season. Tupelo travels to battle the Lexington Horsemen on Sunday, May 15, while Evansville entertains Tennessee Valley on Saturday, May 14.

On Saturday, the Sioux Falls Storm used a strong defense to turn back the Peoria Rough Riders 56-21 in Carver Arena in Peoria, Illinois. Sioux Falls built a 27-7 halftime lead, and the Storm defense limited the Rough Riders to 96 net offensive yards as they increased the lead to 40-7 after three quarters. Peoria quarterback Walter Church was 12-25 passing for 63 yards with two touchdowns. Rough Rider wide receiver Larry Henderson caught two passes from Church for 14 yards and a touchdown, while teammate Jonathon Schoonover caught four passes for 35 yards with a touchdown. Peoria's only other touchdown came from running back Thunder Collins, who logged 14 carries for 60 yards. Sioux Falls running back James Jones carried the Storm, as he reached the end zone three times on 13 rushes for 61 yards. Running back Jerry Davis also added a touchdown on four carries. Storm wide receiver Leon Hall reached the end zone two times, once on a three-yard run and once on a 21-yard reception from quarterback Rob Fangan. Fangan was 9-16 passing for 79 yards and two touchdowns for the Storm and Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs. Sioux Falls defensive back/linebacker Mark Blackburn, the UIF's Week 7 Defensive Player of the Week, logged a solo tackle and six assisted tackles. The Storm improved to 4-3 with the victory, while Peoria fell to 2-4 on the season. Sioux Falls will travel to Rapid City, South Dakota, to battle the Black Hills Red Dogs on Sunday, May 15. Peoria and Head Coach Bruce Cowdrey travel to challenge the UIF's only unbeaten Fort Wayne Freedom on Friday, May 13.

Also on Saturday, the Omaha Beef handed the visiting Black Hills Red Dogs their seventh straight defeat 40-24 in the Omaha Civic Auditorium. An announced attendance of 5,016 witnessed Omaha build a 20-6 halftime lead. Special teams shined in the contest as Black Hills' Ton Ton Luzayadio kicked field goals of 26 and 31 yards in the first half. Jason Hemphill returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown for the Red Dogs in the third quarter. With nine seconds left in the game, Omaha's Donate Allen returned a PAT for touchdown after Black Hills scored on a 31-yard pass from quarterback Frank Borba to wide receiver Mario Patton. Borba also connected with wide receiver Chris Dixon on a 19-yard touchdown. Patton hauled in three passes for 49 yards, while Dixon caught four passes for 49 yards. Omaha quarterback John McMenamin started the game on the bench, but came into the game midway through the second quarter and was 7-17 passing. McMenamin threw for 105 yards and two touchdowns. He also reached the end zone on a 6-yard run in the third quarter. Beef backup quarterback Kevin Oberlander carried four times for 21 yards and one touchdown. McMenamin connected with wide receiver Demond Finister for a 15-yard pass completion for a touchdown just before half. Omaha's Mike Nizzi caught four passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. The Red Dogs and Head Coach Damon Ware entertain the Sioux Falls Storm on Sunday, May 15. Omaha and Head Coach Robert Fuller, now 3-3 on the year, will travel north to battle I-29 and North Division rival Sioux City Bandits on Saturday, May 14. Week 8 Player-of-the-Week Awards

Ft. Wayne gets two and Ohio Valley puts one on list as the Midwest Division sweeps Players-of-the-Week awards in Week 8. United Indoor Football is proud to announce Players-of-the-Week awards for Week 8 of the 2005 season. Weekly awards are presented in three categories: Offense, Defense and Special Teams.

Week 8 offensive player of the week was Ft. Wayne wide receiver Jeremy Dutcher. The Freedom receiver made every catch count on Saturday night recording a total of 7 receptions for 94 yards and an impressive 13.4 yard per-catch average. Dutcher found the end zone 4 times on the night and contributed significantly to Ft. Wayne’s hard-fought win over Sioux City. The Freedom kept their undefeated streak alive with the home win.

Ohio Valley strong safety Shawn Hackett claimed the Defensive player of the week award in Week 8. Hackett led the Greyhounds defense to a 43-26 win over the visiting Lexington Horsemen Saturday night. He had 6 solo tackles and 5 assists in the game. Hackett’s efforts helped hold the Horsemen to one of their lowest point totals on the year.

Wrapping up the week 8 awards in the Special Teams category was another Ft. Wayne player, Kicker Billy Bennett. Bennett went 6 for 8 on point-after kicks for the Freedom and added an amazing 52-yard field goal to Ft. Wayne’s win over Sioux City Saturday night.

Since it opened in September 1994, the Omaha Ronald McDonald House has served families from 44 states and six countries.

These families come to the Omaha area for medical treatment for their children. They come to Omaha to be with their sick child, and the Ronald McDonald House provides them with a place to temporarily call home.

The Omaha Ronald McDonald House is near most area hospitals. The House includes family rooms, a large kitchen and dining area, a recreation room, a playroom, a laundry facility, a sun porch and ample parking.

Referrals to the Ronald McDonald House come from medical staff and hospital social workers. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Families are asked to pay $7.50 per day.

The Ronald McDonald House operates through the generosity of many people, businesses, community and civic organizations, and the Nebraska and western Iowa McDonald’s owner/operators.
