
Storm to Take on Winless Red Dogs

Sioux Falls Storm News Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) is pleased to announce that the Sioux Falls Storm (4-3) will travel to Rapid City, SD this Sunday, May 15, 2005 to take on the Black Hills Red Dogs (0-7) with a 2 PM Mountain Time kickoff, 3 PM Central. The Storm is coming off a big win this past Saturday, as they stomped the Peoria Rough Riders 56-21 on the Rough Riders home turf. The Red Dogs took their seventh straight loss in Omaha last weekend, as the Beef beat them 40-24.
The Storm was led by quarterback, Rob Fagnan, who made his first start of the season to replace the injured Terrance Bryant. Fagnan threw for 79 yards off of 9-16 passing for two touchdowns. On Rob's receiving end was wide receiver, Casey Veenhof, who had three receptions for 29 yards and one touchdown. Leon Hall also had one TD pass from Fagnan, along with one rushing touchdown. James Jones was the main attraction in the Storm's victory last weekend. Jones had 13 carries for 61 yards and an amazing three touchdowns. Jones, the league leader in kick returns, did it again for the second time this season, by returning a kick 47 yards for the touchdown early in the fourth quarter. On the defensive, Shannon Poppinga and Justin Landis each had an interception. Landis finished the night with 5.5 tackles and "Poppy" had 5. Leading the defense was big Bill Gassen at nose tackle. Gassen had 6.5 tackles for the game and fellow lineman Nate Fluit added 5.5 tackles and two sacks. Chris Eads rounded off the Storm's Thunderous Defense by adding 4 solo and 4 assisted tackles for the victory over the Rough Riders.
Black Hills will be under a new Head Coach this weekend as the Red Dogs relieved Head Coach and General Manager Damon Ware on Wednesday, May 11, 2005. Red Dog's assistant Coach Dick Lemke will take over as interim Head Coach for the remaining 8 games of the season. Coach Lemke has previously had Offensive Line and Special Team duties with the Red Dogs. The Storm will have to stop Red Dog quarterback, Frank Borba, who threw for 153 yards from 13 of 24 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions in their loss to the Beef last weekend. Chris Dixon and Mario Patton both were on the receiving end of Borba's passing. Both had 49 yards and one touchdown each in their efforts to stop Omaha. On the defensive side of things, Marlo Young led all Red Dogs players with 10 tackles and three breakups. Jeremiah Trotter III also chipped in with four tackles, a breakup, and one interception.
The Storm's next home game will be Saturday, May 21, 2005 against the Evansville Bluecats at the Sioux Falls Arena. Kickoff will be at 7:05 PM with doors opening at 6:00 PM. Start the day off right by attending the Storm's Tailgate Party at Buffalo Wild Wings that afternoon starting at 3 PM. The party will consist of live music, food and drink specials, Lightning Girls, Ball Babes, and much, much more.
