Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, will host the Olympic Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Condors are also proud to announce that 2008 Olympic gold medalist Jason Lezak will be in attendance for the auction and game against the Fresno Falcons.

Lezak, a Southern California native, is most recognized for anchoring the US 4x100 meter freestyle relay in the 2008 Summer Olympics, coming from behind and out-touching the French relay team to win gold and post the fastest 100 meter split in world history.

The relay victory was even sweeter due to France's pre-race comments about "smashing the Americans." Capturing the gold medal in the relay also kept Michael Phelps' historic quest for eight gold medals alive, which of course he ultimately accomplished. Lezak, with his gold medals in tote, will be given the honor of dropping the ceremonial first puck before the Condors take on the Falcons. The Olympic hero will also be at the Condors photo booth to take pictures with fans and sign autographs during the game. Lezak has three gold medals, three bronze medals, and three world records to his credit.

"Jason Lezak epitomizes the spirit of athletic competition with his obvious work ethic, passion for success, and drive to be the best," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "Jason's performance in the 4x100 freestyle relay was one of the greatest moments in Olympic history. To have this Southern California native in Condorstown for a night is quite an honor for us."

In addition to presenting Lezak with a customized jersey to wear with his medals, the Condors will also be auctioning off a Jason Lezak Olympic Condors jersey, complete with his name and number on the back.

All proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities, including the Ronald McDonald House Family Room - a designated area at Memorial Hospital in which family members of admitted children can eat, sleep and even shower while their loved ones receive treatment.

The Condors Jersey Off Our Backs Auction has raised more than $559,000 for local charities in the last 10 years, including more than $100,000 last season. In addition to the jerseys auctioned off, five players' jerseys will be raffled off free!
