Reign Defeated By Condors 6-3

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, took to the ice for their second home game of the season against the Bakersfield Condors on Wednesday evening. The Reign fell 6-3 in front of 5,033 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Reign left wing Todd Jackson and center Jon Francisco scored in the match for the Reign.

The Reign (3-2-0, 6 points) came out of the game with a strong start on the night, looking to repeat Saturday's home opener success with a win over the Condors (2-2-0-1, 5 points). The Reign and Condors battled throughout the first period, holding each other scoreless until Condors forward Matt Caruana lit the lamp at 16:20 when he slipped the puck past Reign goaltender Jeff Zatkoff for the Condors first goal on the night. The Reign were unable to find the net in the first as they headed into the second trailing, 1-0.

Left wing Todd Jackson found the back of the net just two minutes into the second period for the Reign off of an assist from center Jon Francisco to put the Reign on the board and tie the game 1-1. The Condors fired back at 9:09 as left wing Mark Derlago put up his first goal on the night, with the Condors adding an additional two goals in the final minute of the period, ending the 20 minutes of play with a score, 4-1.

Ontario came back strong in the third scoring two power play goals in the period. Todd Jackson scored his second goal of the night and his third goal of the season off of an assist from center Tim Kraus and defenseman Darren McMillan. Jon Francisco scored his third goal on the season at 16:34 off assists from right wing Brad Mehalko and right wing Mike Howe. Francisco's goal and assist on the night extended his point streak (3g, 4a, 7 points) to five games. He currently leads the Reign in points averaging nearly 1.4 per game. The Condors slotted two more goals in the third period and the Reign couldn't hold on as they fell to the Condors with a final score, 6-3.

Reign fans watched the teams drop the gloves again this evening as Reign left wing Chris Curran and Condors right wing Charlie Kronschnabel faced off at five minutes into the second period. Late in the third, Condors left wing Brian Bolt was assessed a five minute penalty for fighting and a game misconduct.

Notes:

Tonight's Reign power play goals mark the fourth time in five games that the Reign have scored two power play goals in one game.

The Reign travel to Phoenix,Friday, Oct. 31 to take on the Roadrunners and return home for a rematch with the Roadrunners on Saturday, Nov.1 at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Doors open at 6 p.m. Game starts at 7 p.m.
