Olympic Celebration and Star Wars Night this Weekend

January 12, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - At the halfway point of their 62-game regular season, the Chicago Steel (20-5-6-0; 46 pts.) rank first in the Eastern Conference and United States Hockey League standings as they prepare for a stretch of three consecutive home games at Fox Valley Ice Arena, starting this Friday and Saturday night with contests against the Youngstown Phantoms.

The Steel host Olympics Night on Friday, Jan. 14 and Star Wars Night on Saturday, Jan. 15. Both games are slated for 7:05 pm CT puck drops and after Saturday's game, fans are invited to take part in a post-game skate.

With two games at home this weekend, Steel fans get double the opportunity to be included in wild promotions with the chance to win prizes during Olympics Night on Friday and Star Wars Night on Saturday.

Olympics Night includes a recognition of Steel connections on the Team USA Women's Hockey team and competitions for fans to go for the gold, er, Steel medal! Lucky fans will participate in curling, an Olympic ring toss, match the Olympic logo to the host city and even a biathalon.

Star Wars Night, a Chicago Steel fixture on the promotion schedule, concludes the weekend action with appearances from a multitude of characters from a galaxy far, far away, courtesy of the 501st Midwest Garrison. On the interactive side, prizes are up for grabs with a competition to de-frost Han Solo's shirt and play Star Wars planet or not? The always popular Budweiser Shootout makes its return to the Fox Valley Ice Arena ice on Saturday night as well.

In Chicago's most recent game action, the Steel earned three out of a possible four points in a two-game road trip against the Green Bay Gamblers at Resch Center in Wisconsin with a 5-3 victory on Jan. 7 and a 6-5 overtime loss on Jan. 8.

Steel forward Jackson Blake scored five goals over the two-game weekend with a pair of markers in the Friday night win and his first USHL hat trick in Saturday's overtime loss including the game-tying goal with just over a minute to play in regulation. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native shares the USHL lead in points with 49 (18G, 31A) over 31 games played.

This weekend's opponent, the Youngstown Phantoms, enter as winners of four of their last five games including a two-game weekend sweep of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at Covelli Centre in Ohio with a 3-1 win on Jan. 7 and a 3-0 shutout victory by netminder Owen Bartoskiewicz on Jan. 8.

The Phantoms' offensive attack is headlined by the league's top rookie point-getter, Adam Ingram. The St. Cloud State University-bound forward rattled off the longest point streak of the USHL season from Oct. 22 through Dec. 10, totaling 24 points (10G, 14A) over 16 consecutive games. Ingram, a West St. Paul, Manitoba, native, was rated as a 'C'-level prospect according to NHL Central Scouting on the preliminary watch list for the 2022 NHL Draft and has posted three helpers in two games against the Steel this season.

Chicago follows the two-game weekend with a game against the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday, Jan. 21 at 7:05 pm when the team takes the ice for one night only as the Chicago Ice Sharks, a nod to the Fargo Moorhead Ice Sharks who played from 1996-2000 before relocating to Chicago and becoming the Steel. The Steel will war special jerseys presented by FONA International that will be auctioned to benefit the Geneva Academic Foundation. The online auction will run from Thursday, Jan. 20 through Thursday, Jan. 27 on ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com.

Tickets start at just $10 and are available in person at the Steel Box Office at Fox Valley Ice Arena, by phone at 855-51-STEEL and online at chicagosteelhockeyteam.com. The Steel now offer single-game ticket discounts for kids 12 and under and military.
