Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie SeaWolves' pitching staff held down the fort with a 3-2 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Thursday at UPMC Park.
Bowie opened the scoring for the third straight night, this time via a solo homer from Connor Norby off of Reese Olson.
Gage Workman tied up the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a solo homer against Justin Armbruester. It was his third homer in as many days and his 14th long ball of the season. Parker Meadows followed suit with a walk before Dane Myers left the ballpark to give Erie a 3-1 lead. It was Myers's 23rd homer of the 2022 campaign.
Bowie responded in the second. Coby Mayo led off the frame with a single. Toby Welk walked and two batters later Andres Angulo singled in Mayo to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The SeaWolves' offense was quieted by the Baysox bullpen. Noah Denoyer held Erie hitless for four consecutive innings and Connor Loeprich added in a scoreless eighth.
The SeaWolves' pitching answered the call to hang onto the slim one-run lead. Olson retired the last 12 batters he faced. The bullpen then took care of business. Yaya Chentouf got into some trouble after an error from Gage Workman allowed Toby Welk to reach in the seventh inning. Andrew Daschbach ripped a double into right but a perfect 9-4-2 relay from Bryant Packard to Andrew Navigato to Dillon Dingler got Welk out at the plate with plenty of time.
Brendan White picked up his ninth save. He threw two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and one walk while striking out one. It was his first six-out save since May 11 in Akron.
Olson (7-6) earned the win. He hurled his third quality start of the year and tossed six innings for the fourth straight outing. Tonight, he allowed two runs on three hits, walking one, and striking out nine. Olson tied Seth Etherton for the most strikeouts in a single season in franchise history with 153 punchouts. Etherton originally set the record during the 1999 season.
Armbruester (4-1) was tagged with the loss. He yielded three runs on two hits in three innings of work, walking one, hitting two batters, and striking out five.
