Somerset Patriots News Release
Binghamton, New York - The Somerset Patriots (74-47) tight-roped their way to a 4-3 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (49-72) on Thursday night, behind a potent and balanced offensive output.
Brandon Lockridge and Everson Pereira each led the way for Somerset with three hits, while Lockridge added two runs batted in.
Andres Chaparro and Mickey Gasper also added two-hit days, while all but one batter in the Patriots order collected a hit in the game.
Anthony Volpe got the first of the scoring started with a leadoff triple (4) in the first inning.
Pereira brought Volpe home with the game's first run on an RBI-groundout. Lockridge capped the scoring in the inning with the first of his two RBI-singles.
Oliver Dunn gave the Patriots their third run on an RBI-double in the fourth, giving Somerset a 3-0 lead.
Binghamton chipped away with one run in each of the fourth, sixth and ninth innings, but Lockridge's second RBI-single in the fifth inning proved to be the decisive blow for the Patriots.
Yankees No. 12 prospect Yoendrys Gomez made his Double-A debut for Somerset as the game's starter, going 3.1 innings and allowing one run on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
He was replaced by Shawn Semple in his first Double-A appearance this season. Semple earned the win, pitching 1.2 perfect innings in relief of Gomez.
The quartet of Steven Jennings, Aaron McGarity, Tanner Myatt and Carson Coleman kept the Rumble Ponies in their stable to polish off the Patriots' first win of the series.
Coleman earned his 13th save with Somerset and his 17th overall this season by striking out New York Mets No. 6 prospect Ronny Mauricio to end the game with the tying run at first base.
The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on Thursday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch vs. the Rumble Ponies at Mirabito Stadium.
Yankees No. 16 prospect RHP Randy Vasquez will get the start for Somerset opposite Rumble Ponies RHP Alex Valverde.
Fans can follow the action live as Steven Cusumano calls the play-by-play on MiLB.tv and FOX Sports New Jersey 93.5 FM | 1450 AM, the Flagship Station for Patriots Baseball, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m.
