Akron RubberDucks News Release
Summary
Jhonkensy Noel launches a three-run home run as part of an 11-hit night for the offense, but the Altoona Curve bat around in the third and send nine to the plate in the eighth to outslug the Akron RubberDucks 13-7 on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Turning Point
After Noel's three-run blast got the RubberDucks within one at 8-7, the Altoona Curve looked for some late breathing room. A bases loaded walk by Henry Davis got the scoring started for the Curve before Aaron Shackelford lined a two-run single to make it 11-7 Altoona. Davis came home on fielder's choice to complete the five-run inning and put the Curve ahead 13-7.
Mound Presence
Thomas Ponticelli got the start for Akron and looked sharp early allowing just two baserunners through the first two innings. Altoona got the Ponticelli in the third and chased the righty before he could record an out in the inning. In total, the Akron starter tossed two plus innings allowing six runs. Randy Labaut followed with two innings allowing a run. Jerson Ramirez tossed an inning allowing a run. Eli Lingos tossed two scoreless innings striking out two. Aaron Pinto followed with five runs in a third of an inning. Kyle Marman followed by striking out the only two he faced.
Duck Tales
Akron scored in the first inning once again when Angel Martinez singled home Jhonkensy Noel to make it 1-0 Ducks. Noel brought home Chris Roller in the top of the third with a sac-fly to make it 2-0 Akron. After the big Altoona middle innings, the RubberDucks looked to claw back in the fifth when a wild pitch scored Roller to make it 7-3 Curve. Noel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth to make it 8-4 Curve. Noel added to his big day in the eighth when he launched a three-run shot to make it 8-7 Altoona.
