Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Hartford, CT) - Oliver Dunn's career night helped the Reading Fightin Phils (13-15, 41-55) top the Hartford Yard Goats (12-15, 41-53) on Wednesday night. The win gave Reading the 2-0 edge in this week's six-game series.

Dunn wasted little time, as he hit a two-run home run to left field in the top of the first to also score Madison Stokes and put Reading up 2-0. After the teams remained quiet in the second, Dunn smacked a double in the top of the third that again knocked home Stokes to make it 3-0 Reading.

In the fifth, Stokes reached again on a single. With two outs in the inning, Matthew Kroon doubled home Stokes to grow the Reading advantage. Dunn followed with his second homer of the night to also score Kroon and make it 6-0 Fightin Phils. It was the second two-homer game Dunn has had this season. He also matched a season-high with three extra-base hits.

But, the R-Phils were not done in the fifth. Jhailyn Ortiz went back-to-back with Dunn, crushing a home run to left and making it 7-0. It was the fifth instance in which Reading hit back-to-back home runs this season. After Grant Lavigne hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to get Hartford on the board, Baron Radcliff then hit his fifth home run of the season in the top of the sixth to make it 8-2 R-Phils.

Reading's bullpen was excellent again in a game featuring all relievers. Adam Leverett started and went three-shutout innings. Cristian Hernandez (W, 4-2) followed with three innings of his own, allowing two runs, and registering four strikeouts. Keylan Killgore registered a scoreless seventh inning.

McKinley Moore entered for the eighth, but loaded the bases, bringing Carlos Francisco into the game. Francisco induced a double-play ball that ended the inning, keeping Hartford scoreless in the eighth. Francisco tossed a scoreless ninth inning to finish off the win for Reading.

Case Williams (L, 1-9) struggled on the Hartford side. Williams was tagged for five runs on six hits in just 4.2 innings of work. Williams did register eight strikeouts on the night, but it was the second-straight night a Yard Goats' starter failed to reach five innings.

Reading and Hartford are back in action Thursday night at 7:10 p.m. RHP Griff McGarry is scheduled to start for Reading, and he will go opposite LHP Joe Rock for Hartford. Video coverage is available on MiLB TV or the Bally Live App.

The Fightin Phils return home Tuesday, August 15, to begin a six-game series with the Somerset Patriots (Yankees). Tickets to all games are available at rphils.com/tickets, by calling 610-370-BALL or in-person at the Customers Bank Ticket Office.
