Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland Winterhawks forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand and Nic Petan have been named as participants in the 2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game at the Halifax Metro Centre on January 16, 2013. They will join Seth Jones on Team Orr, with Jones having been named captain of the team on November 28.
The 40 CHL players competing in the game were chosen by the 30 NHL clubs then divided into teams by NHL Central Scouting and include 14 players from the Ontario Hockey League, 14 players from the Western Hockey League, and 12 players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Bjorkstrand ranks fourth among all WHL rookies with 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists). He is currently representing his native Denmark in Division I of the World Junior Championship. Bjorkstrand was selected 26th overall by the Hawks in the 2012 CHL Import Draft.
Petan leads the Winterhawks and ranks third in the WHL with 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists). The second year forward has already surpassed last season's output, when he had 35 points in 61 games. Petan was the team's first round pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft.
Jones will serve as captain of Team Orr in the game. He leads all rookie defensemen with 28 points this season (eight goals, 20 assists), which also ties him for second in scoring among all rookies, and ties him for third among all defensemen. Jones was acquired from the Everett Silvertips for four players in May.
Last season's game in Kelowna, BC, featured 10 players that were selected in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft. Since the event was first introduced in 1996 the game has featured 10 players that were selected with the first overall pick in the NHL Draft including Chris Phillips, Joe Thornton, Vincent Lecavalier, Rick Nash, Marc-Andre Fleury, Patrick Kane, Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Taylor Hall, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Season tickets and 20-, 12- and 6-game ticket packages for the 2012-13 season are on sale now. Visit winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK to reserve the best seat locations.
