LAST GAME: Oklahoma extended its current winning streak to five games with a 6-1 win at Iowa. Jason Ellison reached on an error to leadoff the game and came around to score what looked like it might be the contest's only run. Sidney Ponson and Randy Keisler settled into a solid pitchers duel over the next few innings, with each allowing a few baserunners, none of which came to fruition. Nelson Cruz provided the rest of the offense with a solo home run in the eighth and a three-run shot in the ninth. Ponson pitched seven innings of shutout ball to earn his first win, while Keisler, a former RedHawk, took the loss.
AT HOME ON THE ROAD: The RedHawks have defeated the Cubs in six consecutive games at Principal Park. Oklahoma swept a three game series in late June last season, and are looking for a four-game sweep today. Iowa has not been swept this season, and their three-game losing streak is their longest yet.
RIPPING THE COVER OFF: Nelson Cruz had the RedHawks first multi-home run game of the season last night with shots in the eighth and ninth innings. The outfielder is hitting .375 over his last seven games with five home runs and 12 runs batted in. Cruz is tied for third in home runs and stands alone in second with 18 RBIs and 17 walks. Nelson has accounted for 22% of the RedHawks walk totals this season.
NOT TOO SHABBY: Oklahoma has the second highest winning percentage in all of Triple-A baseball. Salt Lake leads with a .944 mark, followed by the RedHawks at .789. The highest percentage from the International League belongs to Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre at .684, closely followed by Louisville (.667) and Richmond (.647). The IL, however, boasts five teams with season records over .600, while the PCL only has three (Albuquerque is the third at .647).
ANYTHING YOU CAN DO: In each half inning that the Cubs have scored during this series, save the bottom of the ninth, the RedHawks have followed suit by scoring in their next respective at bat. Iowa has scored in five of 27 innings played so far, and Oklahoma has answered with runs in the very next inning. This continues a season-long trend for the RedHawks, having scored in 19 different half innings following any opponents runs (19 of 44 innings- 43%)
BALKED HOME: Eric Patterson scored the lone Iowa run last night on Kea Kometani's eighth inning balk. It was the first balk by any RedHawk pitcher this season.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Texas fell 8-3 in Boston... Frisco hung on to beat San Antonio 6-5... Bakersfield had the day off... Clinton lost 6-1 at Fort Wayne.
DOT-DOT-DOT: Jason Ellison extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the fifth inning... Reliever Steve Rowe was activated from the disabled list on Sunday... The RedHawks have their first day off this season on Wednesday, ending a string of 20 consecutive days with baseball. Oklahoma has not had any games postponed as of yet due to inclement weather this year, although did have one game shortened due to rain (4/09 2-1 win vs. NAS in six innings)...
ON THE AIR: Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008. The network affiliates this season are KSIW 1450 AM in Woodward, KXCA 1380 AM in Lawton, KPNS 1350 AM in Duncan, KTJS 1420 AM in Hobart, KGFF 1450 AM in Shawnee, and KWSH 1260 AM in Wewoka. Each game will also be broadcast on the internet through the audio link at www.oklahomaredhawks.com.
