Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes (11-6) came back from an early three-run deficit to defeat the Nashville Sounds (3-15) 12-8 for their third win of the home stand Monday night at Isotopes Park. The victory was Albuquerque's eighth in a row, one shy of a franchise record. A crowd of 10,128 fans, the highest attendance for a game this season and the second highest for a non-holiday Monday contest in team history, came out to enjoy 24,268 50-cent hot dogs as part of the team's popular promotion.

The Sounds started off hot gaining a three run lead in the top of the first. Laynce Nix's RBI single plated former Isotopes Joe Dillon with the game's first run before Russell Branyan fired a double to right-center field, scoring two for a 3-0 Nashville lead.

Albuquerque began to rally in the second with two outs when Brett Carroll hit his third home run of the three games played against the Sounds and his eighth RBI of the series, putting the Isotopes on the board 3-1. The outfielder finished the game with four runs scored, going 2-for-2 with three walks.

Nashville bounced right back with another run in the third when Brad Nelson belted his first home run of the series, putting the Sounds lead back up to three at 4-1.

The ‘Topes continued to close the gap in the fourth scoring two more runs. Tagg Bozied and Carroll walked in front of John Baker, who singled to right-center field scoring Bozied. Chris Barnwell then singled to center field bringing home Carroll, and cutting the lead to a single run at 4-3.

The Isotopes came out in full force in the bottom of the sixth to take control of the game. Carroll singled through the hole at shortstop, Baker singled to right, and Barnwell walked to load the bases. After Dallas McPherson struck out, Jai Miller singled bringing in Carroll to tie the game, and Andrew Beattie roped a two-run single, scoring Baker and Barnwell to give the ‘Topes their first lead of the game 6-4. John Gall extended the advantage with a single to center bringing in Miller for the fourth run of the inning for a score of 7-4.

As they have seemingly all series, Nashville rallied late with two runs in the seventh to trim the lead back to one at 7-6.

The ‘Topes sealed their victory in the bottom of the eighth, however, erupting for five runs. Miller singled to right-center field, stole second, and advanced to third on a Beattie fly-out to right. With a runner on third, in an attempt to set up the double play, pitcher Melqui Torres walked John Gall, but Jason Wood sassed right back on the first pitch he saw with a three-run home run to left field. Bozied then singled and stole second before reaching third on a walk to Carroll due to defensive indifference, which proved costly when Torres threw a wild pitch, allowing Bozied to trot home. Baker then came up with a double, bringing in Carroll to conclude the scoring with the ‘Topes holding a solid 12-6 lead.
