Sidewinders Rally Late For 7-6 Victory

Tucson, AZ - Tucson Sidewinders were 7-6 winners thanks to a 3-run eighth inning rally that denied Fresno a series sweep Tuesday. The victory broke a 7 game losing streak for the Sidewinders and left the team on winning note heading into tomorrow's off day.

Tucson's starter Max Scherzer struck out nine batters in six innings of work and allowing five hits, and walking zero batters. Scherzer, who has struck out 38 batters in four starts with a 1.17 ERA this season, threw an impressive 61 of his 84 pitches for strikes.

The Sidewinders scored in the top of the first with a Miguel Montero RBI single to center. They added one run in the second and third from a Trent Oeltjen sac fly and a Donnie Kelly RBI double down the right field line. Fresno tied the game with a 2-run bomb to left off of Scherzer.

Tucson's reliever Jailen Peguero replaced Scherzer in the seventh with the score tied 3-3 but gave up three runs leaving the Sidewinders in a 3-run deficit. The Sidewinders put one run in the seventh when a wild pitch brought in Tim Raines Jr. from third.

The Sidewinders rallied for 3 runs in the 8th to take the lead 7-6, with walks by Donnie Kelly and Trent Oeltjen, a 2-RBI single by Emilio Bonifacio and a throwing by Fresno reliever Fortunato on a sacrifice bunt attempt that brought home another

The Sidewinders have Wednesday off but will face the Tacoma Rainiers on Thursday night at 6:30 for the first of a four game series starting. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:15 p.m.
