TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The Las Vegas 51s are the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Last year, Las Vegas finished third in Pacific South Division with a 67-77 record.
VS. LAS VEGAS:
The RedHawks swept the season series 4-0 in 2006. After winning the series opener August 2, the 'Hawks shut 51s out three straight days August 3-5 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The all time series is tied 26-26.
TODAY'S GAME:
This is game 31 of the season. It's the first game of a four-game series and the first of four meetings between Oklahoma and Las Vegas this season.
POSTPONED:
Oklahoma and Omaha had the final game of their series postponed yesterday because of a wet field and anticipated inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark on Sunday, June 24. Start time for the doubleheader remains 2:05 p.m. CDT.
LAST GAME:
The Royals ended the RedHawks' four-game win streak with a 9-1 win. Royals hit two home runs as they racked up 13 hits against RedHawk pitching. Bruce Chen earned the loss, he allowed five runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. Freddy Guzman went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the RedHawks.
PITCHING MATCHUP: John Koronka
will takes the mound for the sixth time for the RedHawks this season. Koronka earned a no-decision in his last start Wednesday against Albuquerque. He allowed three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Eric Stults pitches for the 51s.
ROSTER MOVES:
1B Nate Gold has been activated off of the disabled list, and INF David Matranga has been put on the DL.
FIRST GAME OF SERIES:
The RedHawks will look to win the first game of a series for the seventh time in eight tries (6-1). They lost the first game of a series against Albuquerque 9-1 April 30 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
NO HOMER:
The RedHawks didn't homer for the first time in five games on Sunday. The RedHawks have started to find the power this month with eight home runs. They hit just nine in 24 April games.
CLUTCH HITTING:
In the last 15 games, the RedHawks are hitting .341 (46-135) with runners in scoring position. They had only 22 hits with RISP through the first 15 games of season. For the season, they are hitting .257 (68-265) with RISP. Jason Botts leads the team with 10 hits and 14 RBIs with RISP.
SIXTH SENSE:
The sixth inning has become a telling inning for the RedHawks this season. If a starter can make it through the sixth, then the RedHawks are 10-1, if not they are 6-13. In their 14 losses, the RedHawks have been outscored 24-5 in the sixth inning.
BIG BYRD: Marlon Byrd
went 1-for-4 and had the only RBI in Sunday's game. In the last series against Omaha, he was 7-for-14 with two doubles, two home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored.
TUG HULETT: Tug Hulett's
streak of reaching base safely in 20 straight games dating back to April 8 ended on Sunday. Hulett went 0-for-4 Sunday vs. Omaha. Since taking over the starter's job at second base, Hulett has hit safely in nine of 13 games, going 19-for-46 with one homer, five RBIs and 11 runs scored.
