TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The Omaha Royals are the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. They have been a member of the PCL since 1998. Last year, Omaha finished fourth in American North Division with a 53-91 record.
VS. IOWA:
The RedHawks took two of three from the Royals earlier this month at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The final game of the series was ppd. due to a wet field and impending weather. In '06, the RedHawks won the season series 9-7, and went 5-3 at Omaha.
TODAY'S GAME:
This is game 43 of the season. It's the first game of a four-game series and the fourth of 16 meetings between Oklahoma and Omaha this season.
LAST GAME:
RedHawks split four-game series with Iowa after losing finale yesterday 9-7. RedHawk starter Alfredo Simon took the loss by allowing six runs on 10 hits in four innings. Cub third baseman Scott Moore hit two homers to lead Iowa to the win.
WHO'S WHERE?:
The RedHawks have made 23 transactions since May 14. The Hawks have now made 46 transactions on the season. LHP John Rheinecker joins the RedHawks on a rehab assignment from the Texas Rangers. C Nick Trzesniak had his contract purchased from Windy City of the Frontier League to replace injured C Miguel Ojeda. LHP Bruce Chen was placed on the DL.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Armando Galarraga
makes his first start for the RedHawks after being promoted May 19 from Double-A Frisco. Galarraga went 2-3 with a 5.45 ERA in seven games, including six starts, for the RoughRiders. Ben Hendrickson gets the ball for the Royals. Hendrickson took the loss May 4 against the RedHawks by allowing four runs on six hits in three innings, including a solo homer by Marlon Byrd.
GOING YARD:
The RedHawks have hit 21 home runs in the month of May after Desi Relaford's solo shot in the seventh inning yesterday. The RedHawks hit just nine in 24 games in April.
BATTER OF THE WEEK: JASON BOTTS
is the PCLs Batter of the Week after hitting .524 (11-21) with two doubles, a home run, nine RBIs and five runs scored in six games. After hitting .200 with a homer and 14 RBIs in April, Botts has heated up in May. In 18 games this month, he is hitting .366 (26-71) with three home runs and 19 RBIs after going 3-for-5 with two RBIs yesterday. For the season, Botts is now hitting .273 with four home runs and a 33 RBIs. Botts is fifth in the PCL in RBIs (33).
MARLON BYRD:
Byrd is hitting .413 with five home runs and 24 RBIs in the month of May after going 2-for-5 with two RBIs yesterday. Byrd is third in the PCL with 57 hits, and fifth with a .366 average on the season.
BRICKTOWN SHOWDOWN:
The Triple-A Championship Game will be held Sept. 18 at AT&T Brickown Ballpark. The champions from the PCL and IL will play a one-game championship.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks are 9-2 in the first game of a series this season...The Hawks are second in the month of May with a .310 team batting average...Guillermo Quiroz and Botts are riding 5-game hitting streaks into Omaha...Byrd has a four-game hitting streak...The RedHawks are last in the month of May with a 7.05 team ERA...Galarraga is the ninth starter for the RedHawks this season...the Hawks have not committed an error in three consecutive games...Botts has played in every game this season.
