Oklahoma City Blue News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Blue defeated the Westchester Knicks, 116-92, on Saturday at the Cox Convention Center as seven Blue players scored in double figures.
The Blue lineup featured three Oklahoma City Thunder players on assignment, led by Cameron Payne with 19 points, seven assists and four steals in 35 minutes. Mitch McGary totaled 10 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and three blocks in 31 minutes and Josh Huestis added 10 points and five boards in 34 minutes.
JP Tokoto led the Blue's scoring efforts with a career-high 24 points on 11-of-12 shooting with five rebounds. Marquis Teague shot 8-of-14 to produce 22 points and Dakari Johnson tallied 12 points with nine rebounds.
An early 7-0 run put Blue ahead 9-5 three minutes into the game and Oklahoma City would not surrender its lead for the rest of the night. After outscoring the Knicks 50-45 in the first half, the Blue came out of the break shooting 57.7 percent in the third frame to extend its advantage to 84-72 entering the fourth.
Oklahoma City's defense held Westchester to 34.8 percent shooting and 20 points in the final period to clinch the win.
"I was happy with how we defended tonight," said Blue Head Coach Mark Daigneault. "I thought we played a complete 48 minute game on that end of the floor. I was very pleased with that and happy for our players because they've been sticking with the process. We've been off to a difficult start record-wise, but they've continued to show up every day with a high level of commitment and focus. I'm happy they were able to get the win tonight."
Oklahoma City (1-8) shot 50.0 percent as a team and outrebounded the Knicks 51-38.
Westchester (7-2) was led by Jimmer Fredette with 25 points.
The Blue hits the road with a one-game trip to California, facing the Bakersfield Jam on Tuesday at 9 p.m. For more information, visit OklahomaCityBlue.com.
