
Vipers Wrangle Idaho Stampede 99-91

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (5-3) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 99-91 win over the Idaho Stampede (3-8) today at State Farm Arena.
Jaron Johnson led the Vipers with 18 points. Houston Rockets Assignee K.J. McDaniels followed with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Raphiael Putney added 16 points and 3 blocks. Will Cummings also added 16 points. Montrezl Harrell scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in his first game on assignment from the Rockets.
Brandon Fields led the Stampede with 19 points and 11 assists. E.J. Singler scored 18 points, followed by Jeff Ayres with 16 points. J. J. O'Brien recorded 12 points. Utah Jazz assignee Tibor Pleiss scored a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Idaho used a 9-2 run to open the first quarter and take an early lead. At the 4:49 mark, Pleiss gave the Stampede a 15-9 advantage. Johnson responded with a three-pointer to send RGV on a 8-2 run to end the quarter on top 19-17.
The Stampede outscored RGV 29-20 in the second quarter to hold a 46-39 lead at the half.
Cummings tied the game at 50 points with a jump shot with nine minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, Singler responded with a shot from beyond the arc to put Idaho back on top 53-50. At the end of the third quarter, Idaho held a 70-65 lead.
The Vipers used a fourth quarter surge to outlast Idaho. RGV outscored the Stampede 34-21 in the final 12 minutes. Livingston made two free throws with 7:37 remaining in the game to give RGV a 78-77 lead. The shots at the line also started a 17-6 run to give the Vipers a 93-83 lead with 2:33 remaining. RGV was able to maintain the lead through the final minutes to win 99-91.
RGV hits the road Wednesday, Dec. 9 for a 9 p.m. (CST) game at Reno. The Vipers are back at home Monday, Dec. 14 when they host the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 7 p.m. (CST) at State Farm Arena.
