Tulsa Oilers News Release
The Tulsa Oilers won one of three games last weekend, including a 7-6 shootout thriller over Oklahoma City. Tulsa now stands at 5-5-1, 11 points, fourth place in the CHL's Northwest Division.
Kicking off the week, the Oilers welcomed the Amarillo Gorillas to town for a Tuesday matchup. Jason Bermingham and Wes Scanzano each lit the lamp for Tulsa, but it was not enough, as the Oilers fell short 3-2. Amarillo goaltender Jamie Vandespyker made 45 saves and Mark DeSantis had a goal and an assist for the Gorillas. Tim Kelleher turned away 28 in the loss for the Oilers.
Friday night, the Oilers donned special "OU" style jerseys as they hosted the Oklahoma City Blazers at the Tulsa Convention Center. Captain Todd Marcellus scored twice, and Wes Scanzano and Rob Meanchoff each tallied two assists as the Oilers edged the Blazers 7-6 in a shootout. Jason Bermingham scored the game-winner in the shootout, and Tomonari Takahashi scored his first North American professional goal in the win for Tulsa. Rod Branch stopped 43 shots, including all 4 in the shootout to preserve the victory.
The next night, Tulsa hit the highway and traveled to Odessa for the team's only meeting of the season with the Jackalopes. Odessa outshot Tulsa 51-28 for the game, and the Oilers just could not get the offense going, losing 3-0. Rod Branch made 48 saves and held the Oilers in the game until late, but two quick goals for the Jackalopes set the tone for the final period, and they would add an empty netter to set the final at 3-0.
